Kauss Faust;; A Night Like Pearls
His steps sunk into the wet sand and left marks as his foot moved onward to leave another print in a line toward the front of the island. His eyes scanned the sea as he went, looking for any signs of moment that wasn't the natural forward/back of the waves. The dark made it harder to see, but being forced to live in the caves under the island did help his sight in dark situations. Besides, it was the crescent moon that brightened up the night.
It had been an entire month since the last time he had seen Pearl. He knew there were going to be repercussions like Questions and things. Questions that he wasn't entirely willing to answer. He had been in hiding ever since his murder of the maiden of silence and of his mentor's own murder. Ever since then he has been stuck in the underground tunnels training himself and practicing. He had come across the sai weapons in the tunnels and had a feeling that they were from the dark deity that lived down there. But who was he to ask the gods questions. If Darkrai wanted to give him special weapons then let him do so. Anyway… back to not seeing Pearl for awhile. Kauss was a bit worried at how the maiden would react. She had always been the head of their relationship no matter how hard he tried to make things any different.
His eyes drifted to the sky to peer into the moon's light. It had been so long since he had seen the sun or the moon. So long. So long. He missed the warmth and could barely recall what it was like. But the cold light of the moon washed over his face and flooded his veins. The light of the nightmare god. The light of the moon could mean many things. It could be a romantic inviter to the couple in the night. Or it could be the erie light that the murder sees to lead him into a trail of darkness and nightmares. Kauss had seen both sides of the moon. Tonight it was neither. Tonight it seemed like a warning. to leave the beach and never come back. But his heart ached, his senses were dulled, and his mind was clouded. It had been way too long.
But… He was also worried. The woman of the waters would want answers. Answers that he would not be willing to give. Answers that would probably, eventually come out anyway due to her intoxicating ways. But he could never tell. His lie detecting skills never once worked on her. Which, more recently, had started to become a red flag and an alarm to his ears. He couldn't detect her. He couldn't even tell if she was telling the truth. He just always assumed. He didn't know if he could trust her anymore, but he couldn't stop himself tonight from stepping in the directing of the sea.
Then he closed his eyes. He could feel the mist of the ocean spraying his fact as he stepped into the shallow waters of the waves. He could smell the salt from the vast ocean and he could hear the waves crashing onto the beach as if the moon were dancing with the water to a slow dance. But he kept his hands on his sai at all times. He wasn't going to be snuck up on. Not by any human beings. Pearl wasn't human. He didn't know what she was. But he knew that she wasn't human.
