The Mirror Room
Face Claim: Hideki Hinata (my-name family-name order), of Angel BeatsAppearance: Jakob is built wiry, but due to his preferred weapon his smaller muscles have become tough and tight, giving him the look of an athlete more than a fighter. He often dresses carelessly, his clothing chosen by its comfort over its appearance. The only time he ever wears clothing matching his station is when he’s appearing before royalty.
Open and Public
Personality: Jakob’s most defining feature is his stubbornness; he learned at a young age that only those who stand for themselves are stood for by others. If he has a plan, it takes someone he trusts, extreme danger, or extenuating circumstances to convince him to do something different. He’s not an idiot though, and can be reasoned with, when it really matters. An excellent example of this is his dress, which is often disheveled and unkempt, but he goes through the motions of politeness when speaking with nobility; it doesn’t matter what his clothes look like, but showing respect to those of station IS.Despite his stubbornness (or as his friends would say, in spite of), he is respectful of those under his immediate command, and is always willing to give time and effort to help them. He refuses to use his position to help them, however, because of his belief that each person should stand for themselves. Rather, he supports his subordinates with his physical ability and advice. This respect is a double edged sword, however, because if he puts faith in someone and they let him down, they can never recover in his eyes; he doesn’t give second chances.
In combat, Jakob relies on strength and speed, forgoing defense entirely. Jakob’s theory of combat is that if the enemy can’t hit you, then it doesn’t matter how much armor you’re wearing. This attitude extends from combat into his social actions, where he can be blunt at times, and prefers to go on the offensive rather than defensive.
The Secret Side of Me
Greatest Desire: To protect his friends.Greatest Fear: Everyone he cares about dying. Or anyone he cares about dying, if he could have done something about it.
Greatest Secret: Jakob’s mother was from Olivae, and possessed a fair amount of magical power. Jakob did not inherit this ‘curse’ from his mother, and thanks his good fortune every day that he’s normal.
Out of This World
Pokemon: This character bio was made for a canon slot, and as such requests the specific pokemon: a (female) Absol, specifically the Mega breed. This is His-story
History: Jakob was the son of Viscount Klein, who had 4 sons. The eldest, Karlmann, was born to the Viscount’s girlfriend, who then became his wife. Karlmann is his father’s son, and is now 37 and has the beginnings of his own family. The second, Gotthilf, was a bright student who planned to go to the university in Vertrock. The third, Triston, was born to the Viscount’s mistress of the time, and was only 2 years older than Jakob. Jakob himself was born to the same mother as Triston, and was raised by his brother more than the house servants, who had her hands full with the then teenage Karlmann. Then one day when Triston and Jakob were playing in the garden, a strange white pokemon leapt over the walls and began to rush back and forth around the yard. Triston began crying, telling his younger brother that “mommy said tha’s a disas’er god!” Jakob, however, thought that the pokemon looked more concerned than evil, and ignoring his brother went to play with the new playmate.
Triston, terrified of the nightmare in front of him, fled into the castle. The pokemon tried to run after him, but it was at this point that the guards caught up with the animal, and blocked it from chasing the young lord. The pokemon cried out in frustration, and returned to Jakob, grabbing the young child by the scruff of the neck, and leaping back over the walls.
As Jakob cried out in surprise, he watched over the pokemon’s back to watch as the keep where most of his family was collapsed. Later, when they found him, Jakob would learn an earthquake had brought down the already creaky building. Jakob didn’t know that at the time, and the part that he would remember for the rest of his life was that this “disaster god” had saved his life, even risking its own life in the process…
When the survivors found Jakob, the Absol Major, sometimes called a Mega Absol, had stayed by him, making sure none of the damaged walls fell on the youth. The guards had almost attacked the Absol, but Jakob wouldn’t let them, and after much arguing the servants gave in. From that day on, Jakob and Destiny (Des for short) were inseparable. After the dust settled, it was determined that the only members of the immediate family who survived were Karlmann, who had been at the market with his girlfriend, the Lord Viscount, who was in an inn, doing the effectively the same thing as his son, and Jakob, who of course had been saved by a wild pokemon.
Over time, the family recovered. Lord Klein had the keep’s ruins replaced with a graveyard, and built a new keep elsewhere in the town. Karlmann was raised to take his father’s place when the time came, and Jakob was nurtured, muffled, by the adults around him. Karlmann was an adult now, and took care of many things for his father, but the young Jakob was still a child who could fall to harm if they weren’t careful. As Jakob grew up, he pushed this protectiveness away, trying to prove he was able to defend himself. He took to training his body to the limit, until he was stronger than his politically inclined brother, but still he was the baby of the family.
Until one day Jakob snuck out of the keep to explore the city, alone save for Destiny, his ever present companion and friend. In the market district he ran into a scuffle, where a building had been infested with wild pokemon. There were several Rangers there, clearing the Zangeese and Sevipers, and as Jakob watched they fought against the swarm with teamwork and skill, herding the wild pokemon away from potential victims, and into each other. Jakob was inspired by the Rangers, and applied himself to joining their group. With his focus physical training, and having already ‘caught’ a rare pokemon like a Absol Major, it didn’t take much for him to climb up to the upper ranks.
Having escaped the stifling grip of his family’s servents, Jakob rose to the challenge of being a leader. But he wasn’t recognized as a true leader until the day a Tyranitar escaped from its crystal container in the capital. The Tyranitar began destroying other crystal containers, adding chaos to the already dangerous situation. Destiny, however, had sensed the imminent disaster, and Jakob had done the exact opposite of what everyone else was doing: he ran towards the danger. Picking up a dropped Zweihander, Jakob began combating the Tyranitar, tag teaming it with his pokemon companion. Using their superior speed, the two harried the Tyranitar back into a corner, where they were able to recapture it for the scientists. The commander of the rangers took note of Jakob’s bravery and skill, and made him second in command of the Rangers.
